Congratulations Kate!

Friday, November 20th, 2009

We want to say a big congratulations to our Office Manager Kate, who has just been awarded her Introductory Certificate in Marketing from the CIM! All that coursework and revision obviously hasn’t put Kate off as she’s now studying for the Professional Certificate.

Sarah, one of our Account Marketing Executives, has also been hitting the books as she studies for the CIM Professional Diploma. Good luck to both for their exams on the 1st of December!

Our designs hit the road!

You couldn’t miss the trailer we recently designed for E.ON. They’ve been out and about in it giving the general public advice on how to lower energy bills this winter. We created an interactive outdoor game to attract passers-by and have also produced an online version of it. You can have a go yourself here.

Senior Campaign Officer in E.ON’s Customer PR Team, says: “We gave Michon a difficult brief and they embraced the challenge and worked closely with us to create an engaging and inviting way to communicate this advice. We’re delighted with the end result.”

Nottingham Contemporary is open!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

On Saturday ‘Nottingham Contemporary’ finally opened it’s doors to the public. We’ve been watching as this unusual building has taken shape, with more than 500 local craftsmen and women involved in turning the site of caves, cellars and a derelict railway tunnel into this four-storey arts centre. Experience Nottinghamshire predicts that in the first 10 weeks over 250,000 people will visit the centre and we all plan to be amongst this number.

Love it or hate it, architects Caruso St John has certainly created an eye-catching building for Nottingham Contemporary. Martine Hamilton-Knight’s photograph below shows off the intricate lace detail on the exterior of the building.

BBC2’s Culture Show recently featured Nottingham Contemporary, exploring the building and reviewing the exhibition. You can watch the episode using the BBC iPlayer. Current exhibitions include David Hockney and Frances Stark, for more information visit Nottingham Contemporary.

October has been a good month for us!

Friday, October 30th, 2009

We’re chuffed to bits to have been awarded silver in the ‘Best Interiors’ category at the Roses Design Awards, held on the 23rd of October. The award will take pride of place on our bookcase in studio, alongside our Nottingham Creative Business Award that we won earlier in the month.

The Roses Design Awards are open to any organisations outside of London, so it’s a big compliment to have our office do so well. And another good excuse for a little celebration!

Our E.ON exhibition stand is out and about again

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

The E.ON Climate and Renewables stand made it’s annual appearance at the BWEA31 exhibition in Liverpool this week. The stand’s modular, open-plan design demonstrated its ability to be flexible – moving from large to smaller exhibitions, whist still giving E.ON maximum exposure.

The stand is used to publicly demonstrate E.ON’s expertise and large-scale investment in renewable technology, educating visitors about onshore and offshore wind farms, marine and biomass technologies. The stand also uses touch-screen technology to encourage visitor interaction and engage attendees in learning about E.ON’s portfolio of renewable technologies.

Run Tony, run!

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Our Creative Director Tony Michon did us all proud yesterday by running the Worksop half marathon. It was an incredibly windy day, but in spite of that Tony dragged himself out of bed and ran the course in a very respectable 2 hours and 2 minutes, and in doing so he has raised a massive £740 (and counting) for Cancer Research. Well done Tony!

The fundraising page is still open, so if you want to do your bit, or simply want to see the current total, then visit Just Giving. Tony would like to say a BIG thanks to everyone who’s supported him and helped him to raise money for this very worthy cause.

We've got his number!

Time to cool down

Monday, October 19th, 2009

We know it isn’t the time of year to be thinking of keeping cool, but this beautiful new piece of design by Dyson has certainly caught our eye. The Dyson Air Multiplier™ is designed to generate smooth, uninterrupted airflow with no buffeting and to top it off, it looks stunning. Hopefully we will be putting our order in soon.

It’s chocolate week!

Monday, October 12th, 2009

We love our chocolate here at Michon as you’ll have probably noticed from some of our previous posts, such as the chocolate letterpress and chocolate Swiss Army Knife.  This week it’s National Chocolate Week and we’ve been celebrating by eating lots of chocolate. For those of you who are watching your waistline we’ve found the perfect calorie-free chocolate must have… a chocolate iPod cover.

These nifty little iPod shuffle cases from SwitchEasy look good enough to eat, although we doubt they taste as good as the real thing.  Happy Chocolate Week!

Michon Creative – Architecture, Urban & Interior Design award winners!

We’re really thrilled to announce that we won the ‘Architecture, Urban and Interior Design award’ last night at the Nottingham Creative Business Awards. It was a fantastic night and a good time was had by all. The trophy has now taken pride of place on our bookcase in studio.

Our award

As part of our submission we produced this video, which showcases The Old School Rooms.

Well done to all the winners, especially our friends at Scene Photography, who picked up the ‘Photography’ and ‘Creative Business of the Year’ awards at last night’s ceremony. Well done guys, you deserved it.

A full list of winners will shortly be published here.

The Old School Rooms

Friday, September 25th, 2009

We love our home here at The Old School Rooms and are thrilled to say that it has recently been nominated for two awards! The awards are ‘Best Interior’ at the Roses and ‘Architecture, Urban and Interior Design’ at the Nottingham Creative Business awards.  Watch this space to see how we get on. In the meantime, why not have a look around…

Our building began life as a school in 1870. Since then, it’s been the village cinema, the church hall, a safe-place for war evacuees and now it’s home to us, a 25 strong design team. As we searched for new premises, the priority was to be able to get the whole team under one roof in an open workspace. We wanted the design of the interior to be sensory, to stimulate creative thinking, retain the character of the building and give it a new lease of life with a design that reflects our personality – and that’s just what we’ve done.
