University of Greenwich – make your time count

Monday, September 6th, 2010

We’ve recently finished the first phase of filming of the University of Greenwich’s latest promotional videos and the results can now be seen online:

So far we’ve produced a series of 16 films including an overview of the university, spotlights on each of the 3 campuses and individual films for each of the subjects within the Business School. The concept is based around a book, denoting learning and tradition, that opens and comes alive using pop-ups created through a mixture of digital animation and live footage shot at the university’s own ‘green screen’ facility. These animated elements are combined with existing footage and an original musical score to produce a series of engaging and innovate film clips, perfect for their target audience of prospective students and investors from domestic and international fields.

As part of the same campaign we’ve also produced a Virtual Open Day built in Flash that integrates with the university’s own media player and are now working on a series of viral games to help further their promotional work. We’re also about to start on phase 2 of the filming with another 17 films using the same concept due to be completed early in the new year.

Feedback so far has been brilliant including comments made by Gavin Goodwin, the University of Greenwich’s Marketing Communications Officer and Project Leader:

“The films are fantastic! They were delivered on time and on budget and it’s been a pleasurable experience working with the Michon team. The concept they created is really strong and gives us masses of scope for future projects”.

We’re really happy with how the videos have turned out and can’t wait to get stuck into the next phases of the project.

This Aint No Disco

We moved to our new offices here in Radcliffe On Trent a little over two years ago but our renovation project is still gathering interest from sites all over the internet.

The latest site to feature us is This Ain’t No Disco which has just added some photos and a video or our premises, along with a little bit about us and our approach.

Please have a look at our page here and while you’re there, why not check out some of the other offices that they’ve featured – there are some amazing buildings and interiors on show.

A song for England – World Cup 2010

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

The 2010 FIFA World Cup officially kicks off in less than 2 weeks and every patriotic englishman and woman’s thoughts turn to one thing – will this be the year when England, against all the odds, fulfill our dreams… and release a good World Cup song?

We’ve had some solid efforts in the past, ‘Football’s Coming Home’, ‘Three Lions’ and ‘World in Motion’ but maybe this year is THE year. Back in February, the FA confirmed that there will be no official World Cup anthem for England this time around so it’s left to the great British public to come up with their own ideas. So, what have we come up with to cheer our team on?

Here’s a selection:

Noble England
An element of star quality with this one as Rik Mayall has been drafted in to deliver a Henry V style call to arms, backed by a rousing chorus and some thoroughly unnecessary 3D computer graphics.

Take it all away
If you ever wondered what a football song would sound like if it was written in the style of an 80s action film training montage (e.g. The Karate Kid or Rocky), look no further…

We are Engerland
And here’s a more light-hearted effort from some local fans – they’re friends of Lucy’s, I’ll say nothing more than that…

So based on those efforts, maybe the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will be THE year… ;)

Big congratulations to our designer Simone and partner Steve, who got engaged on Friday. Steve popped the question while on bended knee in the grounds of Chatsworth house in Derbyshire, how romantic! Congratulations both of you and all the best with the wedding plans.

Leon dusts off his running shoes

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Leon Summers, our Studio Manager and Senior Designer, put on his running shoes at the weekend and ran the Derby 10k for charity.

Despite having never run 6 miles in his life, Leon did us all proud by running the 10k in an impressive 47 minutes and 47 seconds. In doing so he’s helped raise a huge £595 for The Eve Appeal. Nice one Leon!

He's off!

The fundraising page is still open, so if you want to donate, or see the current total then visit Just Giving. Leon would like to say a ‘big thanks’ to all those who’ve donated and supported him.

Happy Birthday Photoshop

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Believe it or not it’s been an amazing 20 years since Photoshop was first launched by John Knoll, Thomas Knoll, Russell Brown and Steve Guttman. To celebrate the landmark anniversary Adobe gathered together the original developers to discuss the creation and impact of the software, which has become an everyday tool for many designers. You can find out more on the Creative Review website.

Photoshop has certainly evolved over the years...

How many of these versions can you remember?

A unique guide to aeroplanes

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

The in-house design team at South African airline ‘Kulula’ has come up with a unique and informative way to rebrand their aircrafts. Not only does the refreshing colour catch your eye, but you also get to learn what everything is called and even where the loo is without setting foot on board!

Keep your eyes peeled for one of these planes next time you’re at the airport, or click here to find out more.

Michon/E.ON party – the evidence!

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Well we certainly had a good old fashioned knees up at our belated Christmas party on Friday! It was a great night at the Hand and Heart pub with its unusual setting inside Nottingham’s caves.

The night just flew by and we’re sure most people would have been a little worse for wear on Saturday… A good time was had by all – see for yourself below!
